Our Mission

For 20 years, Jambo Africa Community UK has been a home and a voice for ethnic minority residents in Thanet. We turn isolation into belonging—celebrating culture, championing rights, and supporting children, young people, and families to feel seen, valued, and able to shape their community.

For 20 years this local work in Thanet has been at the heart of who we are. We believe in the power of community, culture, and compassion to transform lives—and we carry that same spirit into our international work in Kenya, protecting vulnerable girls and women.

A Message from Our Founder

Being born and raised in Kenya has afforded me the privilege of calling Africa my Motherland. My fondest memories involved running around with bare feet, walking to draw water from a nearby river, and fetching firewood from the forest as part of my chores.

Surrounded by a potentially toxic combination of poverty and lack of opportunity, I found my escape through dance and music. Today, as a trained counsellor, I combine modern and traditional African drumming and dance as therapeutic tools to help individuals heal and build confidence.

For several years, I have run rescue programmes informally from my late mother's home in Kenya. The success and demand for this work now exceeds what can be sustained from a residential setting. Our fundraising efforts will transform these initiatives into purpose-built centres with trained staff, stronger protection systems, and integrated education and livelihood support.

My vision in starting Jambo Africa was to create an organisation that combines African experience with a supportive atmosphere where young people can express their feelings and work towards being more positive persons.

"What you give, you get ten times over."
