Thanet Community & Youth
Empowering Ethnic Minority Children, Teenagers & Families Across Thanet
About This Programme
Jambo Africa began in Thanet, working with ethnic minority families who too often felt unseen and unsupported. For more than two decades that local work has been the backbone of everything we do.
We work with children and teenagers from African and other minority backgrounds who navigate two cultures at once—expected to be one thing at home and another in school and wider British society. We give them safe spaces to express themselves, build confidence, and feel proud of who they are.
Alongside the young people, we support the whole family: helping parents settle into UK life, signposting health and education services, running workshops on rights and everyday practicalities, and bringing people together through cultural celebration, drumming, dance, storytelling, and shared meals.
Our aim is simple and ambitious—to make Thanet a place where every ethnic minority resident is valued, heard, and able to thrive. We are building the kind of organisation that ethnic minority communities in Thanet can call their own.
